Essential Elderly Care: A Day of Connection and Joy at Elder Haven

On February 24, 2024, Make a Better Place had the immense pleasure of visiting Elder Haven, a senior citizen care home in Namma Bengaluru. Our mission was more than just distributing over 500 diapers; it was about fostering connections, sharing laughter, and creating unforgettable moments.

The day began with warm greetings and cheerful introductions. Our team, along with the wonderful volunteers, was eager to engage with the residents. The air was filled with excitement as we prepared for a day full of activities.

From Laughter to Life Lessons

As we interacted with the seniors, we quickly realized that every wrinkle on their faces told a story of resilience, love, and a life well-lived. We spent the morning playing games that brought out the inner child in everyone. From classic board games to lively rounds of carrom, the room was alive with laughter and friendly competition.

One of the highlights was a storytelling session where the elders shared anecdotes from their past. Their tales were filled with wisdom, humor, and valuable life lessons that left us inspired. We listened intently, absorbing the rich history and experiences they generously shared.

Moments of Connection

Beyond the fun and games, the most rewarding part of the day was the heartfelt conversations. We talked about their favorite memories, their families, and their dreams. The connection was palpable, and it felt like we were spending time with our own grandparents.

One resident, affectionately known as Amma, shared her secret to a happy life: "Always find reasons to smile because you’ll have plenty to frown." Her words resonated deeply with us and reinforced the importance of our mission.

The Golden Time

Our golden time with the people of Elder Haven was a beautiful blend of laughter, learning, and love. We danced, sang songs, and even had a small impromptu talent show where the elders showcased their hidden talents. Their enthusiasm and zest for life were truly contagious.

As the day came to an end, we distributed the diapers, ensuring that the residents had the essential supplies they needed. But more than that, we left with our hearts full, knowing that we had made a difference in their lives, just as they had in ours.
